Dune

Shai-HuludThis section of the blog details my experience with the phenomenon Dune series by Frank Herbert, and later by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.

Before I started this website/blog, I had read the original 6 Dune novels back in 1992-1993 and the Prelude to Dune trilogy in 2000-2002. Since I cannot remember the experience then, I will detail my experience from the year 2008.

Apart from reading the novels, I have also played all the Dune games for PC, and watched all the movies and TV series incarnation of the great Dune story, even the 3 hour special movie.

On October 22, 2021, I watched the Best Dune Movie ever! Even though it was Dune Part One, I felt as if the pages of Dune jumped out and turned into this excellent movie! Every character is perfection!

However, there are still more to learn, more to grasp from all the Dune books. But most importantly, the spice must flow!

Litany Against Fear

I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

My two cents on Dune

I know Frank Herbert, Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson are excellent in their own ways. But who do you like better? The mysterious story telling of Frank Herbert or the exciting plot building of Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson?

Personally, I still considered Frank Herbert the best, but it is Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson who continued the great Dune adventures...
